Kirabati was formerly known as the Gilbert Islands. The republic is
spread over 5,000,000 square kilometers of the Central Pacific
and is made up of 33 atolls and islands. This group includes:
the Gilbert Islands, Banaba, the Line Islands, and Phoenix Islands
They consist of a total land area of approximately 850 square
kilometers, and have a combined population of 80,000.
There is only one National Police Force.
