Midway is actually two islands, Sand and Eastern.
A Naval battle fought here During World War II resulted in
a decisive victory for the United States which was a turning
point in the War.
The U.S. Navy no longer has any use for Midway as a base and it
is now under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The only law enforcement officer on the island now is one Department
of the Interior Fish & Wildlife Refuge Officer.
